Coun. Ben Isitt鈥檚 call for the city to buy land for affordable housing sounds well and good.
But will someone at city hall please put a dollar figure to what is 鈥渁ffordable housing鈥�? It鈥檚 like throwing around the word 鈥減eace.鈥� Everyone wants it, but no one knows how to get it. How many more trillions will the U.S. spend on a defence budget before the rest of us get peace?
And before the councillors plunge forward into the abyss, they should look at the folly of the same approach with the failed Pruitt-Igoe affordable housing project in St. Louis, Missouri, even though they are too young to remember it. Money doesn鈥檛 solve social ills. However, I鈥檓 sure they鈥檒l tell us their approach is different.
But if they go forward with this, please make sure it is named the Isitt-Helps Housing Project, lest we all forget.
