My grandfather insisted on eating only ice cream. My relatives did what he asked and he died in pain, grey in colour, obese and covered in weeping sores.
I am a caregiver and see many clients who also say: 鈥淚 will eat what I聽like,鈥� even though what they like is poison 鈥� carbohydrates, sugar and sodas are their staples, and the very idea of eating kale or apples or avocado seems like a foreign language.
On the other hand, I have met some centenarians in Victoria who refuse dessert and pills and eat sparingly. They are setting a silent example, and I thought I鈥檇 write this to encourage folk who know deep down that they could and probably should adjust their eating habits to include nutrition once again. Pills aren鈥檛 the antidote to gluttony.
