The article pointed out that the $23,000 spent to remove the Sir John A. Macdonald statue was nearly half of the reconciliation budget for the year.
A couple of thoughts come to mind: Most things the city spends money on (arts, culture, libraries, etc.) have budgets counted in the millions, not in the tens of thousands. I guess that means that for each of the 47,000 or so Indigenous people in the Capital Regional District, a dollar is spent on reconciliation each year. Seems low.
My second thought is that reconciliation always goes this way 鈥 half the budget is spent getting the white guys out of the way. I still think it was money well spent.
