Rental change hard on聽small stratas

The government鈥檚 proposed ban on rental bylaws in strata properties in sa国际传媒 has the good intention of releasing vacant units in highrise apartment blocks for those in the community desperately in need of rental accommodation.

However, it will impose a hardship on more than 20,000 stratas with fewer than 50 owner-residents. These typically are permanent homes to retirees, mainly in their 80s and 90s, often single, who value the security and friendly community spirit of their properties.

Any home coming on the market is quickly purchased by a like-minded senior.

With no rental bylaw in place in a small strata, a home purchased with the intention to rent would reduce the number of owners ready to volunteer in the management and maintenance of the strata property.

The ban on rental bylaws, if imposed, should be restricted to those strata communities of more than 50聽residents. The benefits and accessibility to smaller stratas for the seniors of sa国际传媒 would be preserved.
