Re: "RCMP road-safety budgets cut in half," Aug. 9.
Insurance Corp. of sa国际传媒 spokesman Mark Van Vrem says that "although ICBC provides funding, we don't tell them how to spend it."
I wonder how far we have strayed from the reality of yesterday. We now have another road tax with no responsibility. We pay gas tax, carbon tax, HST, ICBC premiums and whatever other hidden tax you can find, and budgets are cut in half after establishing a strong law to finally a get a chance of getting drunks and racers off the highways.
Are we now expected to raise our ICBC rates to pick up this shortfall or just cut back on looking for drivers blasting down the highway under the influence? There is very little responsibility in our society anymore and this personifies it.
If they want to trim costs, maybe it is time to let someone else do traffic monitoring at a lower rate, rather than wasting high-paid help with a radar gun and an alcohol tester.
