Jack Knox鈥檚 column reminds me of Rumpole of the Bailey鈥檚 approach to giving up his bad habits. He told his critics: 鈥淭here鈥檚 no pleasure on earth that鈥檚 worth sacrificing for the sake of an extra five years in the geriatric ward.鈥�
As for Knox鈥檚 unfortunate encounter with tofurky and his subsequent trip to the hospital: The rationalization known as 鈥減ost-hoc鈥� explains the connection. Politicians use this ploy to their advantage all the time.
