Saanich protects jewel called Haro Woods

Congratulations to the new Saanich council for finally designating the forested area known as Haro Woods as 鈥減rotected parkland.鈥 It has been more than 50 years in the making.

Congratulations to the new Saanich council for finally designating the forested area known as Haro Woods as 鈥減rotected parkland.鈥 It has been more than 50 years in the making.

Sometimes called a nine-hectare jewel hidden between the University of Victoria and Arbutus Road, this is the last major, unprotected greenspace in Saanich East. It has survived several recent non-forest land-use proposals, such as a sewage plant, low-cost housing and free-riding biking. On a more constructive note, there was a successful 4,500-hour invasive-plant-removal project targeting broom, ivy, holly and daphne.

This is a good opportunity for the community and Saanich to come together collaboratively to implement the park management plan. A 鈥渨ell-done鈥 to everyone involved. The result was worth the effort.
