In 2002, my wife and I and some friends attended the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics to cheer on Team sa国际传媒 in their quest for gold. We were so proud to be Canadian, as our American hosts embraced the Canadian fans with true hospitality and respect.
Everyone wanted the Roots sa国际传媒 attire, sa国际传媒 House was the place to be and despite the intense rivalry between sa国际传媒 and the U.S., the American fans did not boo the Canadian players at the games I attended.
This past week, Victoria had the opportunity to host the World Junior Hockey tournament and I stress the word junior. From the first game against Slovakia to the last game against the Czech Republic, Victoria fans booed the U.S. team and their players constantly. These players are 17-, 18- and 19-year-old amateur kids from U.S. colleges with their parents, family and friends in attendance.
Is this any way to treat our U.S. friends and neighbours? Very poor sportsmanship and a terrible example of real Canadian values. For the booing Victoria fans, shame on all of you.
