What a blessing that the Sidney Crossing development was cancelled due to high costs. It was a bad idea to start with, as it would have been an eyesore, driven business away from Sidney鈥檚 downtown core, and increased traffic and congestion.
Let us hope the new Sidney mayor and town council will help develop and reconstruct the downtown core with an esthetic viewpoint to architecture and one that encourages pedestrians to gather, shop and dine out. Fort Langley is a good example and a town that Sidney could emulate, as people of all ages flock there.
Urban sprawl is an ugly and very outdated concept, and let鈥檚 hope Sidney will be re-invented as a contemporary town with businesses that will appeal to both residents and tourists.
