Some forgot why they went to ceremony

On Sunday, I walked to the cenotaph as I do every year to pay my respects to the men and women who gave up their lives for the freedoms that we all enjoy today.

As I was standing there during the two minutes of silence with all around me doing the same, a couple, not kids but in their late 20s or early 30s were taking selfies of each other and having a laugh.

It wasn鈥檛 the selfies that struck me as odd for the occasion, it was the total obliviousness of the two individuals to the fact that hundreds of people round them were in silent contemplation.

Although I was tempted to say something at the time, I realized of course this freedom was what our servicemen and women had fought and died for.

Unfortunately, people like this couple thought it was all about them, rather than why they had come down to the ceremony in the first place.
