I鈥檓 mystified as to the response of the letter-writer. In any given situation, one has two choices: Do nothing or do something. We know for a fact that the Speaker chose to do something, which is how we got to the present situation. Would the writer have preferred the Speaker did nothing? Would that have made him happier than he appears to be now?
