I sympathize with Lawrie McFarlane. He mistrusts the Trudeau government and clearly feels overwhelmed by the looming cost of climate mitigation. So do I, but, unlike him, I take seriously the need to act now in this climate emergency.
I consider it to be a specious argument that sa国际传媒鈥檚 contribution to greenhouse-gas emissions is so small that we don鈥檛 make any difference. We have to act in concert with all the nations on the planet.
In my opinion, we have to start paying the real price of what we consume, not leaving the cost of cleanup to future generations. Eco-fees on everything, not just fossil fuels.
For sure, this will make us poorer in the short-term, unable to afford all the enthralling consumer gadgets that tempt us. But we will harvest our children鈥檚 gratitude and feel better about ourselves for doing the right thing by them.
