While permanently resolving the plight of those in the downtrodden homeless camps remains a conundrum that goes on and on and on, there is a cost-effective interim solution.
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing could lease sleeper-unit trailers from Atco. These units are commercial-grade trailers that each contain eight to 10 sleeping rooms that would effectively provide warm and dry accommodations.
They could be temporarily set up on provincially or municipally owned land and would address the housing shortage until permanent housing is built.
This approach is akin to the portable classrooms at many of our schools.
I have no connection to Atco, the homeless or the government, but I am reaching out because nasty weather has arrived.
