Re: 鈥淨uiet Canadian diplomacy aided anti-Maduro effort,鈥 Jan. 27.
I am confused by the mainstream-media claim that by encouraging what is arguably the most flagrant public regime change ever perpetrated by the U.S. in Latin America, we are somehow 鈥渁iding democratic forces.鈥
Venezuela uses a highly praised electronic voting system developed by a British company. Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter said: 鈥淭he election process in Venezuela is the best in the world.鈥 Voters are identified with a voter ID and fingerprint on a touch-screen, and Nicolas Maduro was duly elected as president twice using this system.
How is it possible to view the illegal appointment by foreign powers of an unelected representative as the legitimate president of Venezuela as 鈥渁iding democracy鈥?
As has been stated by many experts, for the sake of the Venezuelan people, the region and the principle of national sovereignty, these international actors should instead support negotiations between the Venezuelan government and its opponents that would allow the country to finally emerge from its political and economic crisis.
