I was a clerk at one of the polling stations for the recent Nanaimo byelection.

Voter turnout was 53 per cent for an election that could have affected the balance of power in the legislature. My observation of the age of the voters who came to vote was that virtually none were under 30.

Why were no polling stations set up in shopping malls or at Vancouver Island University, two places where young voters congregate? What does it matter if the polling stations are located outside the constituency boundary, the important factor is to make it easy for voters.

We worry that voter participation is low. Well, Elections sa国际传媒, start by putting polling stations in places where voters work, shop or go to school.
