As a politically active, 鈥渉ippie鈥 teenager, I used to support green causes, thinking it was the moral choice. After doing a lot of volunteer work in the Third World as a young adult, I quickly changed my tune.
Witnessing people living without meaningful jobs, medical care, cars, running water and so many of the developments Canadians take for granted made me realize how important it is to protect our freedom to develop and improve our material lives.
True hippies understand the goal of conflict is not winning and making the others lose. Instead, the goal of conflict is understanding.
I think the Canadian oil and gas industries have done a good job of understanding environmental causes and are some of the best regulated in the world. Restricting the Trans Mountain pipeline or Coastal Gas Link are not true to the hippie way of life because the only way to accomplish them is to reduce freedom and opportunity for other people.
True hippies support rational development and Canadian liquefied natural gas and pipelines.
