Use vacant lots for聽homeless people

I have an idea for the homeless people. Victoria and Saanich have many lots that are empty. A prime location is the former Mayfair Bowling Alley. Currently, it is a big empty lot that has been undeveloped for years.

A prime location is the former Mayfair Bowling Alley. Currently, it is a big empty lot that has been undeveloped for years. There are no homes nearby, and the area does not front any parks. Already, the area is fenced and secure.

If an arrangement with the current owners of the land could be made, a tax concession would be in order for the use of the land, and the property could be used in a way that would add value to the community. If construction were eventually to continue on the property, the land would have to be fully reclaimed anyway, so the high costs incurred for reclaiming the parks would not occur. In the long run, the savings from not reclaiming parks would balance any tax-revenue losses.

As for housing, consider how many used shipping containers are available. They are simple covered shelter but better than sleeping outside during long rainy nights.

The area is already fixed with water and electricity head ends, so services could be established. Containers could also provide economical and sympathetic spaces for service and outreach groups.

It is not a permanent solution, but it is something that would help over the winter and stop this insanity of saying we should do something, but in reality, not doing anything.
