Our hearts go out to the families of the Victor School students and the uncertainty they face because of the school district鈥檚 ill-conceived decision.
I was PAC president at Victor School for the 13 years my daughter Mariel attended. For our family, Victor School was an oasis of loving support when faced with the high-stress challenges of raising a child with severe disabilities and complex health needs.
The outstanding teachers and staff, plus the many therapies and community inclusion this wonderful school provided, dramatically improved the quality of life for my daughter and all of her friends.
The cost to the district to move the lift equipment for the non-ambulatory students alone would be a large amount of money, not to mention facilitating the rest of their gear. It鈥檚 a heartless plan that needs a serious rethink before a court challenge on behalf of the students takes place.
