Vote for character, not for promises

When I worked in local government, staff were always reminding elected officials to keep an open mind, especially during public hearings and at campaign time.

When I worked in local government, staff were always reminding elected officials to keep an open mind, especially during public hearings and at campaign time. Beware of any candidate who makes promises of exactly what will happen in their term, or even which way they will vote on a given issue.

All decisions are subject to studies, budget and public consultation — all of which can and should change the minds of decision-makers.

Don’t vote for promises people are in no position to keep. Vote instead for demonstrated values and character that guide their lives and decisions.

I would like to know how far in the future is their vision for our city, how do they treat marginalized people, how do they work with others, how do they handle disagreement and how do they handle mistakes?
