Re: 鈥淨uiet Canadian diplomacy aided anti-Maduro effort,鈥 Jan. 27.
Why is sa国际传媒 supporting the demand for regime change in Venezuela? To support democracy by endorsing a self-appointed president? Ha. To save Venezuelans from socialism? Ha. Populist programs for the poor, within an economy that includes powerful private corporations and landholders, is not socialism.
Venezuela is split. The Chavistas have millions of supporters. The opposition is divided, no grouping within it is particularly popular, but they will have arms and money from the U.S. This is a prescription for civil war. And U.S. President Donald Trump wants to invade somewhere.
Right-wing operatives are no doubt already writing new laws for Venezuela, including a constitution that will include 鈥渓ocks and bolts鈥 suppressing the voting power of lower classes, to assure no return to power of the Chavistas. And finance vultures are also no doubt circling, ready to sign a new government up for huge loans that will tie Venezuela permanently to Wall Street. Most important, giant oil and other resource companies are no doubt lining up to be granted rights to take Venezuela鈥檚 natural resources.
Regime change in Iraq cost hundreds of thousands of lives, and devastated the country. Libya鈥檚 fate was similar. Iran is in the crosshairs. Note that common to these countries and Venezuela is that they all have lots of oil, and they all thumbed their noses at the American empire. sa国际传媒 has lots of oil, so it鈥檚 a good thing it鈥檚 not thumbing its nose at the U.S. I think I聽just answered my question.
