It is interesting how the cutting down of one tree at Government and Wharf streets has brought down such an avalanche of criticism, name-calling and negative emotion among the good citizens of Greater Victoria.
Eight hundred trees were cut down for the McKenzie interchange, one tree was run down by a taxi on Esquimalt and some lovely ancient Garry oaks were cut down for a condo development on Fort Street. None of these attracted such ire and rampant name-calling as this one tree.
What鈥檚 the difference? Bike lanes. Put that in a headline and the news media are guaranteed thousands of angry clicks, tweets and letters.
Please, let鈥檚 not become a nation of Trump wannabees. Oh, by the way, two trees will replace the one tree at Government and Wharf.
