Will there ever be an end to horrors?

I could not agree more about the appropriateness of paying tribute to those who risked and gave their lives to preserve and protect our way of life, and about the aspect of the war years when seen from the eyes of a child growing up during that horrible time.

May I add: A child growing up in occupied Holland, or any other occupied country.

I remember the bombs, the hunger and the fighting, but first:

The unexplained oppressiveness of not getting an answer to some questions when you entered your classroom in the morning and another seat was empty:

鈥淢iss, where is Flipje?鈥

鈥淢iss, where is Fredi? Is she still sick?鈥

The answer, of course, was that this was another Jewish family arrested during the night in their own home and taken to a concentration camp.

With the synagogue shootings in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, still fresh in our memories: When will it end?
