At Glacier Media, we’ve already featured a couple of this fall's seven Millionaire Lottery Grand Prize Home choices (this and ) – but the Sidney property has to be our favourite.

Ticket sales and open-house viewings begin tomorrow, Saturday November 10. But for those of you unable to get out to see it, here’s a sneaky preview of this new waterfront house.

The three-storey, 4,551-square-foot home has five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a large great room with living, dining and kitchen in an open-concept space, a downstairs recreation room with separate kitchen, and three layers of terraces with fabulous water views. It’s also packed with contemporary architectural details such as a super-cool floating staircase, as well as high-end fixtures and appliances.

The property is a stone’s throw from the Swartz Bay ferry terminal, making it especially convenient for those who spend weekdays on the mainland and return to the Island for tranquil weekends. The ocean views take in passing ferries and look across to Piers Island.

The Millionaire Lottery raises around $3 million each year for the VGH and UBC Hospitals Foundation, and pays for the essential replacement and maintenance of medical equipment. Now in its 21st year, the lottery has raised more than $50 million in total.

Sheril Gelmon, lotteries coordinator at VGH and UBC Hospitals Foundation, who took Glacier Media on a tour of the Vancouver penthouse, said, “When donors donate money, they’re often donating to a specific department or piece of equipment. Which is wonderful, but it means some necessary things get overlooked. The lottery funds are undesignated, which means they go to fund everyday pieces of equipment that wear out.”

The seven prize-home packages on offer to the winner are valued between $3 million and $3.2 million, with an eighth option of $2.7 million in tax-free cash. Gelmon said that historically, most winners have opted for the prize money.

The Grand Prize draw takes place on January 31, 2019.
