Hassell/Griblin designed home lists for $2.4M in Lions Bay

The famed architects were known for placing dramatic homes on properties that others considered 'un-buildable'

An updated home that was originally designed by famed architecture firm Hassell/Griblin Associates is now on the market.

The property at 249 Bayview Rd. in Lions Bay listed on Wednesday for $2.39 million.

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home was first built in 1974, and was updated by D’Arcy Jones Architects in 2019 with the addition of a studio and patio.

Nestled on a steep slope amid tall trees, with exteriors clad in long cedar boards, the 2,317-square-foot floor space is divided between the original home above, and the lower studio addition below. The structures sit on a three-quarter-acre lot.

The original home’s huge windows and skylights, sharp angles and dramatic placement exude West Coast Modern style, with the addition built to match, but with a more modern, minimalist aesthetic.

Architects Robert Hassell and Barry Griblin started working together in 1968, and were known specifically for a that referenced sa国际传媒’s mining history.

Often, their cedar-clad timber frame designs were stepped up on terrain that was considered "un-buildable," but which created dynamic living spaces.
