Sixteen teams will begin play today in the sa国际传媒 senior boys single-A soccer championship being staged at the University of Victoria and Glenlyon Norfolk School.
The Glenlyon Gryphons and host St. Andrew's Sabres will be among the favourites in the three-day event that kicks off with four games at 9 this morning.
The Gryphons will face the Westside Academy Warriors at GNS while Kelowna Christian tackles the Meadowview Gryphons at UVic in Pool 1 play at 9 a.m.
At the same time, in Pool 3, it's the Southridge Storm vs. Osoyoos Rattlers and the Mulgrave Titans against the Rossland Royals, also at UVic.
St. Andrew's opens play in Pool 2 at 10: 45 a.m. vs. Queen Charlotte Secondary, while the St. John Brebeuf Bears face Sim-ilkameen Sparks, both at UVic.
Rounding out Pool 4 are the Immaculate Mustangs vs. Lake District Lakers and West Point Grey Academy Wolves against Nakusp Cougars, also at 10: 45 a.m. at GNS and UVic respectively.
Games continue at 12: 30 and 2: 15 p.m. today.
"I know we're very excited and focusing on provincials," said Sabres coach Mark Cristante, whose team also faces Sim-ilkameen at 2: 15 p.m. in a rare game at Braefoot. "We are hoping to have our students come out and watch that one."
Semifinals are set for Friday at 1: 45 p.m. at both GNS and UVic with the bronze medal and championship games kicking off at 11: 15 a.m. and 1 p.m. at GNS.
