8,428 runners in Victoria marathon enjoy cool, dry weather

The wet weather broke and a cool, dry morning met the runners Sunday for the 37th GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon. Organizers said that of the 8,428 runners, 54 percent were from off-Island.

The wet weather broke and a cool, dry morning met the runners Sunday for the 37th GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon.

Organizers said that of the 8,428 runners, 54 percent were from off-Island. The 1,359 registered for the marathon, 3,313 for the half-marathon, 2,580 for the 8K, 1,046 for the children’s run and 130 for the relay created a ribbon of humanity which pounded the streets of the sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ capital.

The marathon course wound its way through James Bay, downtown, Dallas Road, Oak Bay, Uplands and back to the finish line on Belleville in front of the legislature.

Daniel Kipkoech won his third consecutive men's marathon title in 2 hours 20 minutes 31 seconds.

Sabrina Wilkie, in just her first marathon, won the women's title in 2:45:54.
