Port Alberni鈥檚 Christina Proteau got back in the winner鈥檚 circle on Thursday as her 4-under 70 gave her the sa国际传媒 Women鈥檚 Mid-Amateur championship at Pitt Meadows Golf Club, the third time she鈥檚 claimed the crown in five years.
Proteau last won the provincial Mid-Am title in 2011, finishing as runner-up last season.
On Thursday she caught fire with one of the best rounds of the day at the event, which is run in conjunction with the bigger sa国际传媒 Women鈥檚 Amateur.
The 70 left her in 11th place in the latter category as American Casey Isagawa, who is plays at the University of Oregon, turned in a tidy 6-under 68 to grab the three-day lead (70-74-68).
鈥淭oday was a very good round, especially given the lack of momentum coming into it. I wasn鈥檛 feeling too super after yesterday鈥檚 round,鈥 Proteau said in a statement. She had opened with a 2-over 76 on Tuesday and struggled to an 80 on Wednesday.
Proteau defeated Nanoose Bay鈥檚 Shelly Stouffer (78-77-76) by five strokes for the Mid-Am crown. Jackie Little (81-80-80) was fourth and veteran Alison Murdoch (79-83-81) was tied for sixth.
In the Amateur category, Isagawa is two strokes up on Soo-Bin Kim of Port Coquitlam (72-71-71) and six up on Megan Osland of Kelowna (71-76-71).
Victoria鈥檚 Megan Woodland is in ninth (74-74-75), with Proteau (76-80-70) in 11th and Naomi Ko of Victoria (77-75-75) in 12th.
