All-stars Koch and Libke lead UVic Vikes into sa国际传媒 West soccer quarter-final

Isaac Koch and Evan Libke of the University of Victoria Vikes go into today’s sa国际传媒 West men’s playoff soccer quarter-final against the Grant MacEwan Griffins having been named conference first-team all-stars.

It is the third time Koch, 2019 sa国际传媒 West MVP, has been named a conference first-team all-star in his five seasons with UVic. The attacking midfielder had five goals and two assists in 11 games this season. Libke, staunch on the back line, anchored a Vikes defence that recorded five clean sheets this season, while also scoring three goals.

“It is great to see both Isaac and Evan recognized. Both are senior players as well as captains and leaders on our team,” said UVic head coach Bruce Wilson.

“Isaac has been very strong as one of our attackers, whereas Evan has led the team in defence. Both awards are well deserved.”

UVic topped the sa国际传媒 Division standings at 6-3-3 and meet Prairie Division fourth-place Grant MacEwan of Edmonton (4-4-2) tonight at 6 p.m. at Centennial Stadium in the sa国际传媒 West quarter-finals.

The UVic Vikes women’s ­soccer team (4-5-3 for fourth place in the sa国际传媒 Division) is in Langley today to meet the ­division regular-season champion Trinity Western Spartans (11-0-1) in their sa国际传媒 West playoff quarter-final match-up.

The men’s and women’s quarter-finals winners will advance to the conference Final Four tournaments next weekend to be hosted by the highest remaining seeds.

VIKES NOTES: The Trinity Western Spartans defeated UVic 73-66 in overtime in the opening game of the sa国际传媒 West women’s basketball season Friday night at the Langley Events Centre. Regulation time ended 60-60. Ashlyn Day led UVic with 24 points.

The sa国际传媒 West men’s season-opening game between the Vikes and Spartans in Langley was in progress at press time.

The UVic teams continue their season-opening road swing tonight at War Memorial Gym in Vancouver against their UBC Thunderbirds counterparts.
