Brandon Feldman picked up Wednesday afternoon right where he left off the evening before, only exchanging his winning pitching role to that of delivering home the winning run with his bat.
The Victoria Eagles pitcher/infielder stroked a double to right-centre field in the bottom half of the 12th inning to score Vinny Martin in a 4-3 win over the Victoria Mariners on Wednesday afternoon at Henderson Park.
That completed the suspended 10-inning sa国际传媒 Premier Baseball League affair from a week previous.
Adam Bontkes and Tony Ebbs-Canavan cruised through the two innings on the mound for the Eagles before Feldman鈥檚 heroics delivered Martin, who had walked with two outs.
Nick Dawson took the loss on the mound for the Mariners.
Shortstop Chris Fougner made a spectacular diving grab for the M鈥檚 just prior to Martin鈥檚 walk.
Fougner then took the mound in the following game and led a quick charge as the Mariners bounced back rather nicely in an 8-2 victory over the Eagles in the final regular-season matchup of the two local squads.
Fougner doubled to centre to start off a five-run first inning, which included Evan Willow鈥檚 three-run double with the bases loaded and two outs. It was a fitting end to the yearly series between the two rivals 鈥 two wins apiece.
鈥淚t seems like it was five games, the one was so long,鈥 said Mariners manager Mike Chewpoy. 鈥淗aving to come out and finish it today, it鈥檚 difficult to do that.鈥
That outing was suspended last Wednesday due to a Saanich bylaw as the game had reached the 10 p.m. curfew, tied 3-3 after 10 innings.
鈥淗ats off to them, and two pretty good players for them [Feldman and Martin] beat us in that first one, but that鈥檚 baseball,鈥 added Chewpoy.
His crew went to work immediately though in the regularly scheduled game, led by Fougner and Willow.
The Mariners added two runs in the fourth as Fougner collected his second double to record two RBIs and a run in the fifth as Willow recorded his fourth RBI of the afternoon.
The Eagles finally scored in the seventh as Martin鈥檚 single scored a pair.
鈥淧laying the Mariners, they鈥檙e always great ball games,鈥 said Eagles manager Anthony Pluta. 鈥淭he last one today, not so much. They beat us up a bit, but those games happen.鈥
Fougner picked up the win for the Mariners, while right-hander Riley Edmonds suffered the loss. Feldman, who leads the league in hitting, had four hits on five at-bats on the day.
