Doc Redman has played Augusta. So don鈥檛 expect him to fold at Uplands today.
Because he won the 2017 U.S. Amateur, Redman played in the 2018 Masters in a group with Justin Thomas and Sergio Garcia.
鈥淭iger Woods was in the group right in front of us, so the crowds were huge,鈥 Redman recalled.
鈥淪ome of those players gave me good advice. But you just have to go out there and learn it for yourself.鈥
The galleries won鈥檛 be quite as large, of course, today in the final round of the 37th Bayview Place DCBank Open presented by the sa国际传媒.
But they will be decent, and the biggest will be following Redman, who led the $200,000 Mackenzie Tour PGA Tour sa国际传媒 event by two strokes after three rounds at 16-under 194.
鈥淚 didn鈥檛 get off to the best start [Saturday], but I turned it around with an eagle on the seventh and was consistent the rest of the way and took advantage of the opportunities as they came,鈥 said Redman. His 5-under 65 round Saturday went with his 64 on Thursday and 65 on Friday.
Redman is out of NCAA gridiron power Clemson, a university that, apparently, produces golfers as well as football players.
Chasing Redman are Paul Barjon of France in second place at 14-under 196 and American co-third place holders Zach Cabra and Travis Trace at 13-under 197.
Cabra was tied with Redman after two rounds before shooting a 68 Saturday. But he took it in stride.
鈥淚 struggled off the tee today, but it鈥檚 great to still be in contention, Cabra said.
The reward today for the winner will be $36,000 and a berth in this week鈥檚 PGA Tour Canadian Open in Hamilton, Ont.
The longer-term overall prize for the Order of Merit season champion on the Mackenzie Tour PGA Tour sa国际传媒 is the 2020 season exemption on the higher level Web.com Tour, which is one step from the PGA Tour.
The next four in the overall standings will earn conditional status on the Web.com Tour, while sixth through 10th will gain exemptions to the final round of the Web.com qualifying school and 11th through 25th a bye into the second round of the Web.com Q School.
Since 2013, when the Canadian Tour became the Mackenzie Tour PGA Tour sa国际传媒, numerous players from the Victoria tournament have gone on to the PGA Tour, including seven PGA Tour tournament winners in Tony Finau, Mackenzie Hughes, Nick Taylor, Aaron Wise, Adam Long, Corey Conners and C.T. Pan.
鈥淭here is pressure and you feel it a bit,鈥 Cabra said.
鈥淏ut you try not to think about it. You just go out and work your butt off.鈥
The top Canadian was Evan Holmes, who qualified out of the Greater Victoria Bayview Place Performance Tour, at 8-under 202 for a 10th-place tie with defending champion Sam Fidone of Lufkin, Texas.
At this point, Fidone knows lightning likely won鈥檛 strike twice for him at Uplands, but it has still been a good week.
鈥淚 want to go out [today] and finish top-10 or top-five,鈥 said Fidone, who just missed making the Web.com Tour this year.
