VANCOUVER 鈥 The sa国际传媒 Lions acquired Canadian centre Tim O鈥橬eill, of Victoria, from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Tuesday in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2016 CFL Draft.
O鈥橬eill played 72 consecutive regular-season games for the Ticats over the last four years. He made Grey Cup appearances in 2013 and 2014.
鈥淭im is an experienced centre who helps us change the ratio on offence and further solidifies that position group,鈥 Lions coach and GM Wally Buono said in a statement.
O鈥橬eill, 36, played junior football for the then Victoria Rebels before joining the University of Calgary and was selected in the third round of the 2005 CFL draft by the Edmonton Eskimos, but never suited up in a regular-season game, spending 2006 on Edmonton鈥檚 practice roster before returning to school in 2007.
The six-foot-three, 305-pounder 鈥 who still spends the off-season in Metchosin 鈥 played four years with the Calgary Stampeders (2008-11) and won a Grey Cup with the club in his first year. Last season, he started eight games at right tackle with the Ticats.
The Lions also announced that centre Jason Foster has been released. He started all 18 regular-season games last year and played in the Western semifinal.
