A large gathering of provincial sports leaders will descend on the capital next September when the sa国际传媒 Sports Hall of Fame hosts its 2023 AGM and Summit in Victoria for the first time in its 57-year history. It follows the 2022 Summit in Kelowna this year, the first outside Greater Vancouver.

The three-day summit, set for Sept. 14-16, 2023, will feature appearances by past sa国际传媒 sporting legends and is in conjunction with the sa国际传媒 Sports Hall of Fame, Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame, Greater Victoria Sport Tourism Commission and Destination Greater Victoria.

A highlight of the events are the annual naming of three defining moments in provincial sports history, each of which will receive its own gallery in the sa国际传媒 Sports Hall located in sa国际传媒 Place.

The first such galleries were announced in 2019 and honoured the 25th anniversaries of the 1994 Victoria Commonwealth Games, the Vancouver Canucks’ run to the 1994 Stanley Cup final and the sa国际传媒 Lions’ 1994 Grey Cup victory over Baltimore.

Other moments honoured include the White Towel Power of the 1982 Stanley Cup playoffs, the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and the 1980 Terry Fox Marathon of Hope.

The three announced last month in Kelowna included skier Nancy Greene’s Olympic gold and silver medals at Grenoble in 1968, the Rick Hansen Man-in-Motion World Tour in 1987 and sa国际传媒’s historic win over the U.S. in the final of the Dunhill Cup at St. Andrew’s, Scotland, in 1994, which included sa国际传媒 golfers Rick Gibson Victoria, Dave Barr of Richmond and Ray Stewart of Abbotsford.

“We look forward to working with the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame to make it a special celebration of the power of sport history and a reminder of the currency sport has in honouring the past and inspiring the future,” Tom Mayenknecht, Chair of the sa国际传媒 Sports Hall of Fame, said in a statement.
