Camosun College Chargers volleyball coach Chris Dahl certainly knows his way around the sa国际传媒 Summer Games.
Dahl, who guided the sa国际传媒 men鈥檚 team to the bronze medal at the 2009 Summer Games in P.E.I., has coached the sa国际传媒 women鈥檚 squad to a 5-0 record and first place in its group at the 2013 Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Que.
sa国际传媒, which has won 15 sets and lost only one, plays in the semifinals today against Ontario.
One sa国际传媒 player who needs little introduction to the Dahl coaching style is Morgan Marshall of Camosun.
鈥淏eing a part of the sa国际传媒 Games is a great achievement for athletes from any program,鈥 Dahl said in a statement. 鈥淢organ is doing great things as a high performance athlete.鈥
The sa国际传媒 women鈥檚 softball team, with Emma Entzminger and Kelsie Hawkins of Victoria, is also off to a fast start at 6-2. Wrestling features a province-vs.-province team format with sa国际传媒 鈥 featuring Faye Tuck of Nanaimo and sa国际传媒 opening ceremony flagbearer Ashley Osachuk of Campbell River 鈥 starting strongly at 3-0. Medal hopes, however, have ended for Victorians Matthew Neufeld and Taylor Montgomery-Stinson with the sa国际传媒 men鈥檚 basketball team (0-3).
Of the 360 sa国际传媒 athletes, 84 are from the Island.
The Island鈥檚 first medals over the first four days of competition, both bronze, have been won by Victoria swimmers John McKay in the 800-metre freestyle and Markus Thormeyer in the 100 backstroke.
The sa国际传媒 Games have been the multi-games launching pad onto the senior international stage for numerous Canadian athletes, including Island notables Steve Nash, Ryan Cochrane, Richard Weinberger, Ian Bridge, Gareth Rees, Gary Reed and Riley McCormick.
Meanwhile, The Canadian Press reported that more than 40 athletes were evacuated from the Games Village because of a police lockdown Tuesday after a nearby domestic dispute but that no athletes were in danger.
