The Westshore Rebels are on a bye week, but they keeping making news, and not of the positive kind.
Days after head coach Charly Cardilicchia stepped down as field boss of the sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Football Conference team, the Rebels found out Friday that they will also be with some key components when they next take the field, on Sept. 8 in Nanaimo against the Vancouver Island Raiders.
The BCFC handed down several suspensions to Westshore players on Friday, as a result of altercations at the end of the Rebels’ last game, last Saturday against the Raiders at Westhills Stadium.
The longest of three suspensions was given to linebacker Cordell Holder, who will miss the rest of the regular season and playoffs after the league came down hard on him following his ejection from last Saturday’s game.
Handed one-game suspensions were Rebels offensive lineman Kolton Henderson and wide receiver Cody Holmes.
Aaron Rose and Kaine Stevenson were also ejected near the end of the game against the Raiders, which the Rebels lost 23-9 to drop to 1-1-1 on the season. The league said no further action will be taken on those players.
