The District 7 Little League Major championship is down to the Final Four. After the last game of the five-team round-robin on Friday night, Lakehill, Central Saanich and Hampton/National were all tied at 1-3, behind Beacon Hill and Layritz. A tie-breaking formula determined Lakehill finished third, and Hampton/National fourth, going into today鈥檚 semifinals at Hampton Park.

Defending champion Beacon Hill defeated Central Saanich 10-0 on Friday afternoon and will head into the playoffs as the only undefeated team. In the evening game, Lakehill won 7-3 over Hampton/National, despite two long balls by H/N second baseman Cam St. Pierre.

鈥淲e had really good offence, good hitting,鈥 said Beacon Hill shortstop Nico Ingebrand, who crushed his second home run of the tournament on Friday. 鈥淲e need to keep playing like we鈥檝e been playing.鈥

Today鈥檚 games have Lakehill against Layritz at noon, and Beacon Hill takes on Hampton/National at 3:30 p.m.

The Layritz boys, whose only loss was to Beacon Hill, had the day off Friday.

n While the 11- and 12-year-olds are the verge of deciding who goes to the sa国际传媒 Little League Major Championship in Vancouver July 20-28, the up-and-comers are just getting started at the Layritz Little League park.

Today is opening day of the 9-10 provincial tournament, featuring teams from Little Mountain, White Rock South Surrey, Forrest Hills, New Westminster, Beacon Hill and host Layritz.

Games on tap today include: Little Mountain versus New West at 10 a.m.; Forrest Hills vs. White Rock South Surrey at 2 p.m.; and a hometown match-up between Layritz and Beacon Hill at 5 p.m.
