Belltown isn鈥檛 just a trendy area of Seattle. It also describes a place up the I-5.
Bellingham is Bell Town, as in baseball.
And they have it going on this spring. Not only were six former Bells selected this month in the 2018 MLB draft, but this year鈥檚 edition is proving no slouch, either.
The Bells continued their runaway season atop the North Division of the West Coast League by cruising past the Victoria HarbourCats 10-2 Saturday night before 2,021 fans at Wilson鈥檚 Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park.
One day after Bellingham had its eight-game winning streak snapped in a 6-5 Victoria victory Friday night, the Bells were ringing loud again Saturday, as they went to 14-6.
The HarbourCats dropped to 9-8 and 3.5 games behind Bellingham in the race for the first-half North Division title and playoff berth that goes with it.
The Bells have seven games remaining in the first half of the season and the HarbourCats 10.
Connor Mack, one of the Bells鈥 trio of nicknamed 鈥淏erkeley Boys鈥 out of the NCAA Pac-12 UC-Berkeley Bears, led the 15-hit Bellingham attack with a home run and finished with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI.
Six-foot-three infielder Harrison Spohn from Cal Baptist, the No. 2-ranked pro prospect in NCAA II, provided Victoria鈥檚 rare highlights of the night by going three-for-four.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a tough loss and puts us in a position of having to win three of our four remaining first-half games against Bellingham, if not four of four,鈥 said HarbourCats GM Brad Norris-Jones.
The HarbourCats and Bells close out their three-game set with a matin茅e today at Royal Athletic Park.
鈥淲e feel confident we can beat Bellingham, and we still have a chance to win the series [today],鈥 Norris-Jones said.
