Belmont Secondary sports teams were on hand Tuesday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the opening of an artificial-turf field at the school.
The turf was donated by the City of Langford and is valued at about $400,000.
The junior and senior girls soccer teams and the girls rugby squad represented Belmont athletics at the event.
The turf was relocated after being used at adjacent Goudy Field, which Langford is upgrading to international standards, said Langford Mayor Stew Young. He said the turf given to the Sooke school district still has seven to 10 years of use in it.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a very generous contribution, obviously,鈥 said school district superintendent Scott Stinson. 鈥淚t鈥檚 an amazing partnership that exists between the school district and the city, and the ability to provide something like this benefits not only the students at the school but ultimately the community, as well.鈥
Young agreed, calling the situation with the Belmont field 鈥渁 really good saw-off.鈥
鈥淲e can still use it at night. They get to use it full time during the day.鈥
