Kitsap BlueJackets hurler T.J. Murphy lists his favourite book as Nolan Ryan鈥檚 Pitcher鈥檚 Bible.
He obviously studied it religiously.
Murphy stymied the Victoria HarbourCats by tossing a three-hitter over eight innings Thursday in a 3-0 BlueJackets鈥 West Coast League baseball victory over the HarbourCats in Bremerton, Wash.
But Victoria manager Dennis Rogers wasn鈥檛 so concerned about the six-foot-three Louisiana native and Grambling State University pitcher on the opposing mound as he was about what he saw as lacking in his own bats.
鈥淲e had no offence whatsoever with a lot of soft outs,鈥 said Rogers.
鈥淲e never managed to put together anything. We couldn鈥檛 create anything.鈥
Victoria starter Connor Russell took the loss, giving up all three runs in six innings of work, while striking our four.
Duncan Henderson led the Kitsap attack, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Victoria hitters will have to be better tonight in the rubber match if the HarbourCats (18-19) hope to win the three-game set in Bremerton against the lowly 鈥橨ackets (14-27).
Rogers is looking to build momentum ahead of a crucial homestand: 鈥淲e鈥檙e going to have to manufacture a win [today] so we can get back to .500 heading home for a stretch of six straight games [starting Saturday at Royal Athletic Park with three against the Corvallis Knights followed by three against the Klamath Falls Gems].鈥
