Bobcats, Cougars to invade UVic as Vikes host playoff games

The University of Victoria Vikes basketball teams will host sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ West first-round playoff games Friday night on Ken and Kathy Shields Court at CARSA gym.

The University of Victoria Vikes basketball teams will host sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ West first-round playoff games Friday night on Ken and Kathy Shields Court at CARSA gym.

The Vikes discovered their opponents once the dust settled from the final weekend of the regular season.

The fifth-seed UVic men’s team (15-5) will face the 12th-seed University of Brandon Bobcats (6-14) at 8 p.m. It will be the first men’s playoff game at CARSA since the facility opened in 2015-16

The seventh-seed UVic women’s team (12-8) will host the 10th-seed University Regina Cougars (8-12) at 6 p.m.

The top 12 teams in the conference made the playoffs on both the men’ and women’s sides with the top four receiving first-round byes. The other teams will play single-game playoffs this week with No. 12 at No. 5, No. 11 at No. 6, No. 10 at No. 7 and No. 9 at No. 8.

The winners of the sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ West men’s and women’s first-round games will advance to the conference quarter-finals Feb. 21. The semifinals for both men and women are Feb. 23. They are all one-game affairs, with the top-two seeds hosting four teams each.

The sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ West men’s and women’s championship games are Feb. 29 at the highest remaining seeds.

The conference champions advance to the U Sports national championship tournament March 5-8 at TD Place in Ottawa, where the men’s and women’s championships are being held concurrently for the first time.
