Broncos' Alexander, Grizzlies' Newhook earn invites to Canadian U-18 team summer camp

Alex Newhook of the Victoria Grizzlies of the sa国际传媒 Hockey League have been invited to the Hockey sa国际传媒 U-18 selection camp.

Defenceman Jacson Alexander of Victoria, who skates for the Western Hockey League-champion Swift Current Broncos, and forward Alex Newhook of the Victoria Grizzlies of the sa国际传媒 Hockey League have been invited to the Hockey sa国际传媒 U-18 selection camp from July 28 to Aug. 1 in Calgary.

They are among 44 top players invited to try out for the Canadian team that will play in the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup U-18 tournament in August in Edmonton and Red Deer. The invitations have been extended to four goaltenders, 14 defencemen, and 26 forwards who are developing in major-junior and Junior A hockey, including three players who were part of sa国际传媒鈥檚 team that competed at the 2018 IIHF U-18 world championship in Russia last April, going undefeated in preliminary-round action.

sa国际传媒 won last year鈥檚 edition of the summer Hlinka event in Breclav, Czech Republic, besting the host team 4-1, with a squad that included 18 players who were selected in the 2018 NHL draft last weekend. From all countries, 77 alumni of the 2018 event were selected by NHL clubs, including seven of the top-10 picks and 19 first-rounders.

sa国际传媒 has won gold 21 times in 27 summers of the U-18 competition.

The tournament was recently rebranded as the Hlinka Gretzky U-18 Cup.
