The Canadian Colleges Athletic Association women鈥檚 volleyball championship will be going cost-to-coast within the next 14 months, out east this spring and in Victoria a year later.
Camosun College was awarded the 2017 CCAA national championship on Tuesday as the school鈥檚 bid was accepted and approved at winter meetings in Ottawa. The tournament will take place at the Pacific Institute for Sports Excellence gym, March 8-11, 2017.
The 2016 championship will be hosted by Holland College in Charlottetown, P.E.I., March 9-12.
鈥淲e are looking forward to this opportunity of showcasing women鈥檚 volleyball at the national collegiate level to the rest of the country, making this championship a memorable experience for all involved,鈥 Graham Matthews, athletics co-ordinator at Camosun, said in a statement.
Since moving to PISE six years ago, the Chargers Athletics program has played host to two Pacwest provincials, including last year鈥檚 men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 volleyball championships, which packed the PISE gym.
鈥淭he success and positive feedback received from this past event has provided the college with the confidence of moving to the next step in taking on the responsibilities of hosting the CCAA women鈥檚 volleyball national championship,鈥 added Matthews.
The Chargers鈥 women鈥檚 team, led by coach Chris Dahl, claimed bronze at the 2015 national championship at CEGEP 脡douard-Montpetit in Longueuil, Que., the program鈥檚 first-ever national medal in women鈥檚 volleyball.
Meanwhile, the Chargers鈥 men鈥檚 team won gold in Charlottetown last year and is perched to make another run this year with Douglas College, in New Westminster, the site from March 9-12.
鈥淐amosun鈥檚 women鈥檚 volleyball program has come on strong in the last couple of years nationally with winning a bronze medal last year,鈥 Fred Batley, CCAA women鈥檚 volleyball convenor, said in a statement. 鈥淲ith a new facility, a fan base and many volunteers I know that Graham and his organizing committee will do a fantastic job.鈥 鈥攕a国际传媒
