After two years in the dark because of the pandemic, the HSBC World Series sa国际传媒 Women’s Sevens rugby tournament will come back into the light April 30-May 1 at Starlight Stadium.

The annual tournament returns “after a challenging period of time for both our sport and the Canadian rugby community,” said Rugby sa国际传媒 interim CEO Jamie Levchuk.

Two-day tournament passes go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m. PT at . Single-day tickets will be available in March.

“It’s unique in that not many national teams get to play in the same facility in which they train,” said sa国际传媒 interim head coach Jack Hanratty. “There’s a real excitement and energy around that in our group.”

Rugby sa国际传媒 is based in Langford.

The host Canadian team will be looking to rebuild from its stunningly precipitous fall from being bronze medallist in the 2016 Rio Olympics to missing the quarter-finals in the Tokyo Olympics.

“There’s been great conversations, and a great deal of honesty, about the challenge ahead. We want to tackle that head on,” said Hanratty.

Hanratty, who took over as interim head coach in October following the sharply disappointing ninth-place finish in Tokyo, will remain in that position for at least another eight months. The period will include the sa国际传媒 Sevens at Starlight, other HSBC World Series tournaments, the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, the World Cup sevens qualifying tournament, and hopefully, the World Cup Sevens in South Africa in September.

The Canadian men’s team is also based in Langford. The HSBC World Series sa国际传媒 Sevens men’s tournament is April 16-17 at sa国际传媒 Place.
