If it worked once, why not try it again?

That is what Canadian head coach John Tait did in naming the same lineup, for the women鈥檚 sa国际传媒 Sevens May 11-12 at Westhills Stadium, as the one that won the Japan Sevens last month.

That victory moved sa国际传媒 to second place in the World Series standings heading into the final two tournaments in Langford and next month in Paris.

The top four teams will qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and sa国际传媒 will be looking to clinch at home in what is certainly destined to be an emotive moment at Westhills.

鈥淲e are focused on the top four and mathematically qualifying for the Olympics,鈥 said Tait, of Mill Bay.

鈥淭o do that in front of our home crowd is important to us. The CBC numbers show half a million people have watched its coverage of the women鈥檚 rugby World Series this year and this our opportunity to play live in front of our own fans.鈥

But that comes with its own potential perils.

鈥淭here鈥檚 always pressure at a home tournament,鈥 said Tait, who guided the Langford-based squad to the bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

鈥淲e know there are distractions at a home tournament and we [take measures to deal with them].鈥

Named to the Canadian team are Britt Benn, Emma Chown, Caroline Crossley, Bianca Farella, Julia Greenshields, Kaili Lukan, Breanne Nicholas, Kayla Moleschi, Karen Paquin, Charity Williams, Keyara Wardley and captain Ghislaine Landry.
