Carleton wins 16th U Sports national men's basketball championship

The most dominant dynasty in the history of Canadian basketball gained yet another laurel on Sunday evening when the Carleton Ravens defeated the Saskatchewan Huskies 85-72 in the U Sports men’s national championship game in Edmonton. It was the Ravens’ 16th national title since 2003, and third-straight, and 10th in the past 11 seasons.

The Atlantic-champion Dalhousie Tigers defeated the sa国际传媒 West-champion University of Victoria Vikes 98-72 in the consolation final Sunday. The Vikes finished 21-3 on the season. Sophomore guard Diego Maffia and fifth-year forward Matthew Ellis scored 18 and 17 points, respectively, for the Vikes. First-team all-Canadian guard Scott Kellum concluded his outstanding five-season career at UVic with six points.

The undefeated Ryerson Rams, with former UVic coach Shalie Dheensaw as assistant coach, captured their first U Sports national women’s basketball championship Sunday with a 70-48 victory over the University of Winnipeg in the final played at Kingston, Ont.
