Cavalry upsets Pacific FC in crunch CPL match

For the second consecutive game, PFC missed a penalty

Just when it seemed Pacific FC was about to run away and hide atop the Canadian Premier League table, trust Cavalry FC to throw a spanner in the works. The Calgary club (5-2-6) defeated PFC (7-2-4 in wins-losses-draws) 2-1 on Saturday night at Starlight Stadium.

Erik Kobza scored at 36 minutes and eight-time sa国际传媒-capped former Dundee United player Fraser Aird at 44 minutes to give Calvary FC a two-goal lead against their great rivals in the first half.

“It felt like a playoff game and top of the table clash,” said Cavalry FC head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr.

“PFC is having a terrific season and threw everything at us.”

Easton Ongaro pulled the Tridents to within one in the second half. But for the second consecutive game, PFC missed a penalty, this time from Manny Aparicio. “We make it difficult on ourselves,” said PFC head coach James Merriman.

PFC has a short turnaround to its next game Tuesday night in Halifax, against HFX, which is the third longest distance travelled between two pro soccer teams in a domestic league in the world.
