Comox's Green gets another shot with Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers recalled third baseman Taylor Green from triple-A Nashville to start in place of Aramis Ramirez, who is nursing a minor back injury.

Nashville's season is over, so Green left his home in Comox Valley at 6 a.m. Friday. When manager Ron Roenicke met with reporters about 1 1 /2 hours before game time Friday night against the Cardinals, he said Green's plane had landed but he had not arrived at the stadium. Eventually Green made it to the game and started at third base. He finished 0-for-4 with an RBI as the Brewers and Cardinals were tied 4-4 heading to extra innings at press time.

Roenicke said Ramirez was feeling much better and might play today.

Green was batting .198 with two home runs and 10 RBIs in 45 games including 19 starts.

YANKEES 8, ORIOLES 5

BALTIMORE - Wei-Yin Chen insisted he wasn't

tired. Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter backed the assessment.

The results suggested otherwise. Chen gave up three home runs and didn't make it out of the fifth inning in an 8-5 loss to the New York Yankees.

The defeat dropped the Orioles out of a first-place tie with the Yankees in the AL East and brought about a string of questions about whether Chen (12-9) has hit the wall in his first big league season after a successful four-year run in Japan.

"I wasn't able to attack the strike zone, Chen said. "This is the Yankees, and I made a couple of mistakes and they made me pay the price."

Alex Rodriguez, Russell Martin and Steve Pearce all homered to help New York build a 7-0 lead.
