The Camosun College Chargers golf team may as well be mailmen. They continue to deliver the goods through wind, rain, sleet or whatever other conditions Mother Nature throws at coach John Randle鈥檚 men鈥檚 team.

The Chargers battled the elements at Northview Golf and Country Club in Surrey last weekend to bring back a second consecutive Pacwest team title and strengthen their No. 1 Canadian Colleges Athletic Association national ranking.

Randle鈥檚 Chargers were led by Cochrane, Alta., native Mac Keats, who recorded rounds of 72-73 to finish third overall at the Kwantlen Polytechnique Invitational, the second of four Pacwest events.

Camosun finished atop the team standings at 594, nine strokes better than the Fraser Valley Cascades at 603 and third-place Douglas College at 613.

Zach Olson of UFV placed first overall with a 72-71 finish, followed by Steven Hayes of Douglas 73-73. Keats, whose opening 72 was tied for the lowest round of the day, was third, with teammate Brady Stead fourth at 74-74.

The Camosun duo of Grant Maskiewich (74-76) and Matt Matheson (73-77) were tied for sixth and Jeff Riches, the only Victoria-area product on the Chargers roster (from Claremont), was 10th at 77-76.

鈥淲e had to battle some serious weather, but the guys fought hard and we had a solid weekend,鈥 Randle said in a statement. 鈥淒espite playing in torrential rain on Day 1, we played well, shooting the low score by nine (293). Day 2 was played in very high winds all day with about an hour of really hard rain mixed in. We posted a team score of 301, which tied us for low of the day with UFV.鈥

Keats and Hayes lead the men鈥檚 cumulative standings at 289 with Stead third with 291, Maskiewich tied for sixth at 297, and Matheson eighth with 300.

The Chargers now prepare to play host to the Camosun Invitational at Bear Mountain Golf Resort on Saturday and Sunday.

鈥淚t was great to see the guys keep grinding and get rewarded with another win,鈥 said Randle. 鈥淲e are looking forward to being at home at Bear Mountain and hosting this weekend.鈥

The Chargers placed first at the UBC-Okanagan tournament at Okanagan Golf and Country Club Sept 12-13 with 580 points, 12 up on the UBC-Okanagan Heat.

Keats tied for second there with 73-69 performances.
