Sean Geall鈥檚 Kelowna Curling Club rink got their wish Friday afternoon at the sa国际传媒 Men鈥檚 Curling Championship in Parksville 鈥 a rematch with four-time defending champ Jim Cotter.
Geal knocked off Brent Pierce of Royal City Curling Club 8-3 in the B-event final to advance to today鈥檚 Page 1-2 game against A-event winner Cotter. The winner of the Geal-Cotter match advances directly to Sunday鈥檚 4 p.m. championship game, while the loser drops down to the semifinal Sunday morning.
Cotter defeated Geal and his rink of third Jeff Richard, second Andrew Nerpin and lead David Harper, 7-6 in the A-event final on Thursday.
鈥淭he way we鈥檙e playing now, if we can keep this going, I like our chances,鈥 Geal said in a Curl BC statement.
鈥淭he first half of that game [against Cotter] wasn鈥檛 going our way but the momentum we gained in the second half paid off today.鈥
On Friday morning, Geall doubled Victoria鈥檚 Glen Jackson 4-2 in a tussle that featured five blank ends in a B-event semifinal, while Pierce outlasted Dean Joanisse of the Golden Ears Winter Club 8-7.
Jackson then dropped down to the C-event where he would face son-in-law Chris Baier, who also hails from Victoria, with a team based out of Kelowna. Cal Jackson, Glen鈥檚 son, also plays lead on the Baier team.
Jackson came out the winner, staying alive with a 5-4 extra-end victory.
Baier had eliminated Mark Longworth of Vernon 7-3 in the morning draw and another Victoria Curling Club rink skipped by Jason Montgomery sent Wylie Eden of Penticton home via an 8-5 victory.
Montgomery then edged Grant Dezura of the Golden Ears club 9-7 with a steal of two in an extra end in C-play, and Joanisse dumped Victoria鈥檚 Wes Craig 11-7.
Joanisse went on to beat Jackson 10-7 in one C-qualifier Friday night and Montgomery edged Pierce 7-6 in the other.
