The defending Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League champions have a commitment from Dysin Mayo, a third-round Western Hockey League bantam draft pick in 2011 by the Edmonton Oil Kings. Mayo spent the past two seasons playing for the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy in Kelowna. He will attend the Oil Kings rookie camp, but if he doesn't crack the roster of the defending WHL champs, Cougars head coach Mark Van Helvoirt says Mayo will suit up for Victoria.

The 6-foot, 170-pound Mayo was recently in Kamloops for the Team Pacific tryouts. Team Pacific will compete in the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge Dec. 28-Jan. 4 in Quebec. The Team Pacific final roster will be announced in November.

Veteran pro Gordy Scutt was the lone golfer to shoot in the 60s last weekend at the Vancouver Island Professional Tour's Island Bakery Gorge Vale Open, and it helped him claim the overall title.

Scutt, of Olympic View, fired rounds of 67 and 71 to claim a five-shot win over Edd Boudreau. Cordova Bay's Axle Riley, Steve MacPherson and Kevin Maxwell tied for third with 150 totals.

The third-place finish allowed Riley to hang on to the lead in the Order of Merit standings. He has a narrow lead over Boudreau and Highland Pacific's Rob Cruise.

Next up on the Island pro tour is a stop at Cordova Bay on Tuesday.
