Josh Anderson of Duncan, the third overall pick Thursday in the 2013 WHL bantam draft, will celebrate like a true Islander.

He鈥檚 going fishing this weekend on Cowichan Lake.

If there鈥檚 anything the six-foot-two defenceman from the Cowichan Valley Capitals bantam Tier 1 team likes more than hockey, its fishing.

But it鈥檚 hockey that gets the attention.

鈥淚t feels pretty good to go that high,鈥 said the Grade 9 Mt. Prevost Middle School student, who also plays lacrosse.

As for style, Anderson said: 鈥淚 think defensive first. I鈥檓 physical but with and offensive upside and can move the puck.鈥

But he will be going to the struggling Prince George Cougars, who lag in the standings and the stands at the CN Centre.

鈥淚 have no concerns about that. I want to be part of the rebuilding process,鈥 said Anderson, who will play next season in the sa国际传媒 Major Midget League for the South Island Royals.

The Cougars indeed see the Islander as a building block for the future.

鈥淗e鈥檚 a big body that skates well,鈥 said Cougars GM Dallas Thompson.

鈥淗e plays mean and does everything hard.鈥

Anderson was the first of five Islanders selected. Blueliner Dylan Coghlan of Nanaimo went 63rd overall in the third round to the Tri-City Americans, winger Dawson Haines of Duncan 71st overall in the fourth round to the Seattle Thunderbirds, six-foot-two Juan de Fuca rearguard Brendan De Jong in the seventh round to the Portland Winterhawks and defenceman Ryan Warner of Juan de Fuca in the ninth round to the Everett Silvertips.
